Intervene

The status of a student's objective changes to Intervene () if

  • Students work on the required number of practice problems (or exercise problems) for an objective three times without answering enough problems correctly to go on to Ready to Test ().
  • Students work on the required number of test problems for the objective twice without answering enough problems correctly to go on to Mastered ().
  • Students work on the required number of review problems for the objective twice without answering enough problems correctly for the objective to be marked Reviewed ().

For example, if the Practice mastery criteria is 5 correct out of 6 attempts, Accelerated Maths will change the state of the objective to Intervene if the student has not met the mastery criteria after being presented with 18 practice problems from that objective (3 times the minimum number of attempts).

If one of your students has an objective marked Intervene, the student will not get any more problems for the objective unless you take action. The student needs additional help with the objective. We recommend that you discuss the objective with your student and re-teach the information if necessary. Then, you can click Intervene in your Assignment Book and remove the Intervene status by doing one of the following:

  1. Click the Generate Exercise option to print an exercise that includes the objective.
  2. For each student listed, tick the objectives to include in the exercise. (Students whose names are in red already have an unmarked assignment, so you cannot print a new one.) Click Next >.
  3. On the next page, use the drop-down list to choose the assignment format (online or paper). If you choose paper, choose the answer format (free-response or assisted-response). Then, enter the number of problems to include for each objective. Click Generate to generate the assignment.
  1. Click the Generate Diagnostic option to print a diagnostic test that includes the objective.
  2. For each student listed, tick the objectives to include in the diagnostic test. (Students whose names are red already have unmarked assignments, so you cannot print a new one.) Click Next >.
  3. On the next page, use the drop-down list to choose the assignment format (online or paper). If you choose paper, choose the answer format (assisted-response or free-response). Then, click Generate to generate the assignment.

If you have more than one student with Intervene objectives, you can click Generate Exercise or Diagnostic Test for all students requiring intervention above the list of students in the Assignment Book. You can then choose the assignment type and objectives for multiple students at the same time.

Once you generate the exercise or diagnostic test, the status of the objective will change to Working () or Diagnosing (). If the student does not answer enough problems correctly on the exercise or Diagnostic test, the objective will change to Ready to Work () or Ready to Test () after you mark the assignment. If the student passes an exercise, the objective will change to Ready to Test; if the student passes a diagnostic test, the objective will change to Mastered ().
