Changing the Paper Assignments Preference

The Paper Assignment preference affects how paper assignments for your class look and how they are printed. The settings include:

  • font size
  • answer placement (automatic, horizontal with answers in a row, or vertical with answers listed below problems)
  • whether to include a list of the objectives on an assignment
  • duplex printing (if your printer supports it)
  • whether to preview assignments before printing or print directly
  • whether to embed fonts

Embedding fonts includes them in the assignment file in case these fonts are not available on your computer or printer. By default, this option is ticked so that all fonts are embedded; this helps prevent problems printing special characters, which are used on many assignments. If special characters are printed incorrectly on assignments because the fonts are not available, students can be confused and may be unable to complete the assignments correctly. If the viewing and printing of special characters is not a problem at your school, you can choose not to embed fonts to print assignments more quickly.

Who can do this with default capabilities?

School Network/RP Administrators, School Administrators and Teachers

School network and school staff cannot change the settings. Follow these steps to set the preference:

  1. On the Home page, click Accelerated Maths, then Preferences. If you have access to more than one school, use the School drop-down list above the class preferences to choose a school. If you have more than one class, click the Class drop-down list and select a class.

  2. Click Paper Assignments in the list of Accelerated Maths preferences.
  3. To choose the Page Layout preference options:
    • Click the font size you prefer for class assignments.
    • Click the answer placement option you prefer for assisted-response (multiple-choice) problems. Automatic means the program will choose an arrangement. Horizontal means the answers will be arranged in rows below or behind the problem. Vertical means each of the answers will be listed on its own line.
    • Tick the List Objectives on Assignment box if you want the objectives included in the assignment to be listed on the first page.
  4. To choose the Printing Preference options:
    • Tick the Enable duplex printing box if you want double-sided assignments and your printer can do this. (If you enable duplex printing, on Windows computers set up duplex printing in the printer properties.)
    • If you want to preview assignments in Adobe Reader before you print them, tick the Preview box. Note: If you do not preview assignments, each computer that you use to print assignments must have the Renaissance Place Print Plug-in installed.
    • Tick the Embed Fonts box if you want the fonts embedded in the assignment (see the explanation above).
  5. If you want to go back to the default settings, click Default below the tables. This will select the standard (12-point) font and automatic answer placement, tick the List Objectives on Assignment box and tick the Embed Fonts box.
  6. Click Save to save your changes (or Cancel to leave the page without saving changes).
