Approving Independent Reader Status

When you set certification targets for your students and enable the TWI Monitoring Preference, Accelerated Reader automatically monitors student progress toward the targets and awards reader certifications when students meet the requirements. When a student achieves Independent Reader status, the teacher must approve it.

Who can do this with standard capabilities?

School Network Administrators, School Administrators, Teachers

Reading Practice certification targets are different from the Reading Practice targets you can set for your students - those targets are set in the Reading Practice Targets Record Book.

  1. On the Home page, click Accelerated Reader, then Record Books and Targets.

If necessary, choose the school and class from the drop-down lists. Choose My Classes instead of a school if you want only the Accelerated Reader RP classes you are assigned to as a teacher to be in the class list, regardless of the school.

  2. Click Reading Practice Certifications in the list of Class Record Books.
  3. The Status column on the View Reading Practice Certification Record Book page shows you whether each student's certification is in progress, has been achieved or needs approval and whether a new target is needed.
  4. Click Approve for the student who needs his or her Independent Reader status approved.
