Editing the Class Quiz Set-Up Preference

You can use the Class Quiz Set-Up preference to block students from taking Reading Practice, Vocabulary Practice and Literacy Skills Quizzes. Changes that you make to this preference apply only to the class that you chose to work with. Note: If you block quiz-taking using this preference, the teacher cannot override the block even if you have enabled the Override Authorisation Preference.

The Quiz Set-up preference also lets you set up restrictions for the class based on book level and interest level. Students will only be able to find and take quizzes on books in the book level range that you specify or with the interest levels that you specify.

Who can do this with standard capabilities?

School Network Administrators, School Administrators, Teachers

If you copied classes from the previous school year, this class preference setting will also carry over from the previous school year.

  1. On the Home page, click Accelerated Reader, then Preferences.

  2. Click Quiz Set-Up in the Class Preferences section on the Preferences page.
  3. If necessary, choose a school and class from the drop-down lists on the View Quiz Set-Up Preferences page. Choose My Classes instead of a school if you want only the Accelerated Reader RP classes you are assigned to as a teacher to be in the class list, regardless of the school.
  4. Click Edit Quiz Set-Up.
  5. The Edit Quiz Set-Up Preferences page shows you which types of quizzes the students in the class will be allowed to take.
  6. The pencil graphics show you which type of quizzes the setting applies to: indicates Reading Practice Quizzes, indicates Literacy Skills Quizzes and indicates Vocabulary Practice Quizzes.

To change the settings, tick the box by each quiz type you want the students in this class to be allowed to take. Note: If you leave a box blank (blocking quizzing on that type of quiz), the teacher cannot override the block even if you have enabled the Override Authorisation Preference.

  7. In the Books section, if you want to restrict students in the class based on book level and interest level, do the following:
    • Enter the lower and upper end of the range of book levels (or Lexile® Measures) that you want to allow students in the class to take quizzes for. If you enter the full range (0.0 to 20.0 for ATOS or BR to 1800 for Lexile® Measures), students can take a quiz for any available title.
    • Use the drop-down list to choose the interest levels for books that students in the class are allowed to take quizzes for. LY (Lower Years) is for content that is most appropriate for ages 5-8. MY (Middle Years) means ages 9-13, while MY+ means ages 12 and above. UY (Upper Years) means the content is most appropriate for ages 14 and above.

Book level and interest level restrictions set in this preference cannot be overridden with the authorisation password because the student cannot find quizzes with book levels or interest levels that you have chosen not to allow.

  8. Click Save when you have finished.
