  6. TOPS Report Printing: This preference specifies whether the Print TOPS Report button will appear on the Quiz Score after passed or failed Reading Practice and/or Literacy Skills Quizzes, and after Vocabulary Practice Quizzes. It also shows whether teachers have permission to change the settings for their classes.

    3. Choose whether to allow teachers to change the settings from the drop-down list. If you allow teachers to make changes, their changes will override the school settings, but only for their class.
  8. Authorisation Password Required: These settings show whether (and when) an authorisation password is required when your students take Reading Practice, Literacy Skills and/or Vocabulary Practice Quizzes. An authorisation password can be required before a quiz or after a quiz. This preference also shows whether teachers are allowed to change the settings for their classes. To edit:
    1. For each quiz type, tick the Before Quizzing or the After Quizzing box if you want to require the authorisation password to be entered before or after a student takes a quiz.
    2. Choose whether to allow teachers to change the settings from the drop-down list. If you allow teachers to make changes, their changes will override the school settings, but only for their class.
  9. Literacy Skills Retakes: These settings show the number of times (if at all) students are allowed to retake the Literacy Skills Quiz for a book. It also shows whether teachers are allowed to change the setting for their classes.
  10. Even if students are allowed to retake a Literacy Skills Quiz, the questions on the quizzes will probably be different since the program randomly selects the questions presented on each quiz from a larger bank of questions.

    To edit:

    1. Choose the number of times (0, 1 or 2) you want to allow your students to retake a Literacy Skills Quiz from the Retakes drop-down list.
    2. Choose whether to allow teachers to change the settings from the drop-down list. If you allow teachers to make changes, their changes will override the school settings, but only for their class.

    1. Tick the Show definitions box if you want the definitions to be included when a student views vocabulary for a quiz.
    2. Choose whether to allow teachers to change the settings from the drop-down list. If you allow teachers to make changes, their changes will override the school settings, but only for their class.
  12. TWI Monitoring: The setting shows whether students are asked if a book was Read To them, Read With them or Read Independently before they are take a Reading Practice Quiz. TWI Monitoring must be enabled for Accelerated Reader to automatically track and update student reader certifications. To edit this preference, tick the TWI Monitoring Enabled box to start TWI monitoring.
  13. By changing the Edit TWI Settings Preference for a class, you can determine whether individual students are asked the TWI question or if the program assumes certain students have read all books independently.

  14. Reading Practice Pass Mark: This shows the minimum percentage that a student must earn to pass Reading Practice Quizzes. The pass mark is set separately for quizzes with 10 or fewer questions and quizzes with more than 10 questions. To change the pass marks, enter the new percentage in each field. The default pass marks are 60% for quizzes with 10 or fewer questions and 70% for quizzes with more than 10 questions.
  15. Literacy Skills Pass Mark: The setting shows the minimum percentage a student must score to pass a Literacy Skills Quiz. To change the setting, choose another percentage from the Pass Mark drop-down list. Note: Literacy Skills Quizzes are either 12 or 24 questions long. The default passing percentage is 70%.
  16. Show Missed Questions: The settings determine whether missed questions are shown to the student after passing Reading Practice and/or Literacy Skills Quizzes. To edit this preference, for each quiz type, tick the box if you want to allow students to see the questions they missed on the quiz.
  17. Certifications: The setting shows the minimum scores that a student must achieve on Reading Practice Quizzes before the book and the points count toward reader certifications. If the student's score is below this level, neither the book nor the points will count toward a certification target, even if the score allows the student to pass the quiz. (The pass marks for Reading Practice Quizzes are set using the Reading Practice Pass Mark preference described above.) To edit the Certifications preference, click the option you want.
  18. Show Total Points: This preference applies to NEO 2 after students take a Reading Practice Quiz, where the total points earned will only show if the student has taken more than one quiz in the current marking period. (This preference does not apply to Accelerated Reader in the browser, where the total points will always show for the current marking period.) To edit this preference, tick the box to allow students using NEO 2s to see the points they have earned. If those students are allowed to see their points, they will see the total points they earned as part of the scoring summary after the quiz.
  19. Book Voting: The setting shows whether students will be asked how they liked the book after taking the Reading Practice Quiz for it. This box is ticked by default. To edit this preference, remove the tick mark from the box to prevent students from choosing how they liked the book.
  20. The results of the book voting can be seen in the Favourite Books Report.

  21. Override Authorisation: The settings show whether the teacher has permission to override blocks on quizzes or on date and time restrictions so that students can take a quiz. To edit this preference:
    1. Tick the first box if you want to allow the teacher to be able to override a block on a quiz.
    2. Tick the second box if you want the allow the teacher to be able to override any date and time restrictions that may have been set using the Date and Time Restrictions preferences. Note: The School Date and Time Restrictions preferences also have a setting for allowing the teacher to override the preference. If you change the setting here, it will also be changed there.
  22. Authorisation Password: The setting shows the authorisation password that has been created for Accelerated Reader. This password must be used whenever the program asks for an authorisation password; teachers, administrators and staff cannot use their own passwords. To edit this preference, delete the existing text and type the password you want all your teachers to use.
  23. Click Save when you have finished.
