Independent Reader

There are several reader certification targets that you can set for your students using the Reading Practice Certifications Record Book. Each one has its own requirements that the students must meet to be certified at that level.

Certification targets are different from the Reading Practice targets that are set in the Reading Practice Targets Record Book.

Independent Reader is one of the reader certification levels. Students can achieve this certification only once and teacher approval is required before Independent Reader is certified in the program. To earn Independent Reader, the student must:

  • Independently read three books with a 1.2 or higher ATOS book level (or 160L Lexile┬« Measure).
  • Accumulate ten points on books. Books Read To, Read With or Read Independently for this level to count toward point accumulation.
  • Meet the minimum scoring requirements set in the Certifications Preference for the quizzes taken on the books.

If the TWI Monitoring Preference has TWI monitoring on (ticked), the program can track each student's progress and award certifications automatically. However, if TWI monitoring is off (not ticked), or if you have not set certification targets for your students, the program cannot track your students' progress because the program uses the targets and TWI information to determine whether students have met certification criteria. In those cases, you could award certifications manually.

You can print customisable award certificates using Reader Certification Certificates.
