Reading Practice Targets Record Book

In the Reading Practice Targets Record Book, teachers, school administrators and school network administrators can set four Reading Practice targets for students: average percentage correct, daily reading time, points and average book level.

  • The average percentage correct target is the average score that students earn on Reading Practice Quizzes during the marking period. You can choose values from 85%-90% for this target.
  • The daily reading time target is the time set aside for the class to spend reading every day.
  • The points target is the number of points that students earn on Reading Practice Quizzes during the marking period. Point values vary from book to book. The number of points earned depends on the student's score on the quiz for the book. Points targets must be greater than or equal to 0.1 and can include up to one digit after the decimal place.
  • The average book level target is the average ATOS book level (or Lexile┬« Measure) for the titles for which the students pass Reading Practice Quizzes during the marking period. Book levels are based on the difficulty of the book. Average ATOS book level targets can range from 0.1 to 20.0 and Lexile┬« Measures can range from BR to 1800.

To view the Reading Practice Targets Record Book for an entire class, follow these steps:

  1. On the Home page, click Accelerated Reader, then Record Books and Targets.
  2. If necessary, select the school or class or both from the drop-down lists.
  3. Click Reading Practice Targets.

Targets are set by marking period or by school year. Before you can set targets, you must select the marking periods that you want to use for targets by clicking Select Marking Periods on the View Reading Practice Targets Record Book page. Then, click Select next to each marking period you want to use. Click Save when you have finished. You can set targets for either the entire school year or individual marking periods, but not both. As you are selecting the marking periods for the class, the software will not allow you to select overlapping marking periods.

Reading Practice targets are different from the certification targets that are set in the Reading Practice Certifications Record Book.
