Before Students Quiz on a Mobile Device

The Accelerated Reader (AR) iOS app will not be supported starting in July 2017 and will be removed from the iOS app store. However, after July students can continue to use Accelerated Reader on tablets that are 7 inches or larger; simply use the web browser to log in and use the software.

You must complete the following steps before students take AR quizzes on mobile devices:

  • Establish an Internet connection.
  • Download the AR app. Note: You must have established and verified iTunes® and Apple® accounts before you can download the app.
  • Establish settings by connecting to Renaissance Place on one device.
  • Share settings from one device with any and all devices the students will be using to take AR quizzes.

Download the AR student App and Connect to Renaissance Place

  1. Download the free AR student app from the iTunes Store® or App StoreSM. See the store where you downloaded the app for information about system requirements.
  2. Launch the AR student app by tapping AR.
  3. The first time you launch the app, tap Connect to Renaissance Place to connect to Renaissance Place.
  4. If this is not your first time launching the app, tap Settings to connect to Renaissance Place.

  5. On the Settings page, tap the Connect to Renaissance Place field, type your web address (URL) or Renaissance Place ID (RPID) on the device keyboard, and tap Join. Your connection will be validated. If it is not validated, try this step again.
    • Example web address: https://ukhosted1.renlearn.co.uk/456789
    • Example RPID: RLI-12AB
  6. Tap Done. You will be taken to the student login screen.

Share Settings with One or More Devices

Instead of typing the web address or RPID on each mobile device, you can share the settings of one device with one or more devices, enabling students to start quizzing more quickly. To share the settings of one device (such as a teacher mobile device) with one or more devices (such as student mobile devices), follow these steps:

  1. On the teacher's device, tap Share My Settings. Keep this screen up on the device whose settings will be shared as you complete the following steps.
  2. On the student's device (that will be using those shared settings for AR quizzing), launch the AR student app.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Find Shared Settings.
  5. Tap the settings you want the student's device to use. You will go back to the Settings screen and the connection will be validated.
  6. Tap Done to go to the student login screen.
  7. If you do not have any more devices to share settings with, go to step 8.
  8. If you do have more devices to share settings with, repeat steps 2 through 6 on each device.

  9. Back on the teacher's device, tap Settings on the Share My Settings screen, then tap Done to stop sharing your settings and go to the student login screen. (Your students will still be connected through your shared settings and will be able to quiz.)
