Capabilities give users the right to perform specific tasks in this software. Capabilities are sometimes known as rights, access and/or privileges.

Most often, the capabilities you have depend on which of these six user groups you belong to:

School Network Users

RP administrator (program administrator).

All other users assigned to the school network, including the chief education officer, curriculum director, educational psychologist, gifted/talented director, library/learning resource centre (LRC) manager, other school network staff, personnel director, reading specialist, school network secretary and special education director.

School Users

Deputy head teachers, head teachers, intervention specialists and librarians.

Doctor, EAL coordinator, educational psychologist, G&T coordinator, guidance counsellor, head of department, ICT subject leader, interpreter, librarian/resources coordinator, literacy subject leader, maths subject leader, occupational therapist, other school staff, physiotherapist, reading specialist, school secretary, school nurse, science subject leader, SENCO, social worker, speech therapist and teaching assistant.

EAL teacher, other teacher, teacher - lead, teacher - special duty, teacher - special education, teacher - substitute and teacher - team.

Other Users

Students will log in to use some software programs.

Each user group has certain capabilities assigned to it by default, but these defaults can be changed (see below). Some capabilities affect all of Renaissance Place, while some affect specific programs. (KeyWords RP has no capabilities that are only for that program.)

Do you have more than one assigned role? Go to the Home page and click your name at the top. If you see a Change Role option, use it to choose a different role. You may have links available for one role that are not available for the other.

Changing Capabilities

The only people who can change capability settings (by default) are school network administrators and school administrators. If you are a teacher, you cannot view or change your capabilities; contact your school network administrator or school administrator for assistance.

The settings for some (but not all) capabilities can be changed in one of three ways:

  • Changing the setting only affects people who are already in the user group when the setting is changed. Anyone added to the user group after that will still get the default settings for the capability.

  • Changing the setting only affects people who are added to the user group after the setting is changed. Anyone already in the user group before that will keep their existing settings for the capability.

  • If a capability is assigned to an individual, that assignment overrides any restrictions based on that person's user group.
