Estimated Maths Level (ML) Preference
STAR Maths normally starts a student's first test with questions slightly below the student's year level. If the student has taken a STAR Maths test in the past six months, STAR Maths uses the results from the last test to decide the starting difficulty level for the next one.
However, when students have an Estimated Maths Level (ML) set, STAR Maths uses that level to decide how difficult the first question should be. You should only enter an Estimated ML for students who receive maths instruction at a higher or lower level than their current year.
Who can do this with default capabilities?
School Network Administrators, School Administrators, Teachers

Click STAR Maths on the Home page, then click Preferences.

On the Preferences page, select the student's school and class from the dropdown lists in the Classroom Preferences section of the page .

In the Student Preferences section of the page, click Edit .

To change a student's Estimated Maths Level, type it in the field in the row for that student (in the Estimated ML column) .
Note: Although Year 1 students can take the STAR Maths test, 1 cannot be set as an Estimated ML.
