Favourites and Book Bundles

All myON users can use the Favourites & Book Bundles feature to create their own lists of books.

Favourites are books that you want to come back to or find easily. Bundles are books that you are grouping for a specific purpose, such as creating a list of books you want to read. Teachers and administrators may also add the books in a bundle to a project or share the books with students. Books can be in your favourites without being in bundles, and they can be in bundles without being in your favourites.

Favourites

Adding Books to Your Favourites

Wherever students, teachers or administrators view books, whether you are viewing recommended books, browsing or searching for books, you can add books to your favourites.

Students can select Add button after they select a book cover. In the list view, they select Add button to the right of the book information.

Teachers and Administrators select Add to Favourites below the book, regardless of whether they are using the grid view or list view of books.

For all users, if you select a book to open the book information window, select add to favourites button to add the book to your favourites.

You can also add a book to your favourites as you read. Look for the favourites button to the right of the zoom and full window buttons. After you select the favourites button, you will see hearts move upward; then, the button will show a check mark instead of +.

Bundles - Adding a Book Directly to a Bundle from the Library (Teachers and Administrators Only)

If you want to add a book directly to a bundle, select the Share drop-down list and select Add to Bundle (Suggest). In the window that opens, you can enter a new bundle name, or you can use the drop-down list to select a bundle that you have already created; then, select Add to Bundle. This adds the book to the bundle, but not your favourites; to add the book to your favourites, follow the steps above.

Viewing the Books in Your Favourites and Bundles

To see the books you have added to your favourites and bundles, select Library, then Favourites & Bundles.

When Favourites is selected on the left, you will see the books that you have added to your favourites. If you want to see the books in a specific bundle you have created, select the bundle on the left. Note: Books can be in favourites without being in a bundle, and they can be in a bundle without being in your favourites.

As you view Favourites and Bundles, you can do the following:

  • In the group you have chosen to view, search for books with specific words in the title using the Filter books field.
  • Use the options at the top of the page to choose whether to see just book covers and titles or a list with more information.
  • Choose how you want to sort the books: by title, date added to the favourites or the bundle, ATOS book level, Guided Reading Level, year, audio length/time, page count or word count.
  • If you sort by something other than title, you may see that information for the books (for students, the information is only shown in the List view). In the example below, a teacher has sorted the books in Favourites by page count, so the page count for each book is shown above the year.

Working with Bundles

Bundles are groups of books that you want to use for the same purpose, such as books you want to read, books for a project or books that you want to share with students.

The bundles that you have created are on the left side of the page; select a bundle to see the books that are in it.

Adding a New Bundle

If you want to add a new bundle, select on the left. Then, in the window that opens, enter the name of the new bundle and select Save.

Copying Books from a Bundle to a Project (Teachers and Administrators)

Whether you view Favourites or a specific bundle, Teachers and School or Group Administrators can copy all the books that are shown to a project. Make your selection on the left; then, select Copy to Project as shown below.

If you want to add the books to a project you have already created, select the Add to Project drop-down list and choose the project that you want to add the books to; then, select Add to Project.

If you want to add books to a new project, leave "Create a new Project" selected in the drop-down list; then, enter the name for the project. Select Add to Project.

Whether you add books to an existing project or to a new one, you can change your selections later by editing the project.

Sharing a Bundle with Students (Teachers and Administrators)

Teachers and School Administrators can share a bundle that they have created with their students. When a School Administrator shares a bundle, all students in the school will see it. When a Teacher shares a bundle, the students assigned to that Teacher's class will see the bundle on their main myON page.

To share a bundle, view the books in the bundle. Then, select Share Settings. (Note: This is available for bundles, but not your favourites.)

In the window that opens, choose the Share until option and enter a date (or select a date from the calendar that opens). The date that you enter or select must be within the school year and cannot be more than 90 days in the future. Select Save.

Shared bundles have a "thumbs up" icon in the list of bundles.

When you select a shared bundle, a message will show you the date the bundle has been shared until.

Once you have shared a bundle, students will see the books toward the bottom of their main page - the page they see first when they log in to myON. You name will appear after the bundle name. Your students will see the bundle until the date that you selected.

If you decide to stop sharing a bundle, select the bundle name again in Favourites and Bundles. Select Share Settings; then, select Don't Share in the window that opens.

Sharing Book Links (Teachers and Administrators)

To share a link to a book in your Favourites or bundles with another user on your myON site, select Edit below the book; then, select Copy Book Link in the menu that opens. For more about sharing book links, see How to Share a Direct Link to a myON Book.
